Verification of these criteria requires a copy of the Discharge Papers or the Separation Form (DD Form 214).  There is always a possibility of an omission on the discharge papers or separation form and a veteran may request a correction of records by submitting GSA Form 180. Also, if there is a serious question regarding a veterans’ eligibility, we can submit it to VFW National for their review and consideration.  We do believe that veterans who served in Europe during the Cold War (Sep’45 – Dec’91) may soon be eligible should the Cold War Medal recently proposed be approved by congress.
